KEY STATISTICS IN AUSTRALIAN RETIREMENT

In early 2021, the Australian National Univesity conducted a survey of almost 3,500 adults about their thoughts on retirement. The results revealed that 7 in 10 adults think that the current age pension of $944.30 per fortnight for a single person with no children is not enough.

The study also found that 55.7% of the respondents who aren’t yet retired are worried they won’t have enough savings to live comfortably when they stop working. But pension and retirement savings are only two of the things that contribute to the perceived retirement outcomes in Australia.

From data published by the ABS, here are snapshots relating to retirement figures, income, and age. Please note that these figures represent the 2018-2019 Financial Year – the latest release from the ABS.
